Onyx
Onyx — the stone that becomes a light source.
Lit from behind, an onyx slab stops being a surface. The banding reads like weather, and the whole panel glows. It is what gets specified for bar fronts, reception desks, feature walls, shower surrounds and island waterfalls, and there is no substitute for it.
If you are planning to backlight: use 2CM rather than 3CM, an LED panel rather than strips so you don't get hot spots, and a resin-backed or mesh-backed slab. Tell us the application and we will tell you what a given block will take.
Know the material. Onyx is softer and more brittle than marble. It is calcium carbonate, so acids etch it, and it can be fragile along the banding — which is why most slabs ship resin or mesh backed. It is a feature material. Beautiful on a bar front or a vanity; the wrong choice behind a busy cooktop.
On price. Onyx varies more by block than any other stone we sell. Colour, banding and clarity all move the number, and two slabs sold under the same name can differ by thousands. Always ask for photos of the actual material.
Call or text (940) 398-5589 and we will send photos and video, backlit where we can.
