Travertine
Travertine — the stone Rome was built from, and still the material for pool surrounds, patios, cladding and floors that need to feel warm underfoot.
Filled or unfilled. Travertine forms with natural voids. Filled slabs have those voids grouted and honed flat — that is what you want for countertops and interior floors. Unfilled reads rougher and more rustic, gives better grip underfoot when wet, and is what usually goes around pools and on exterior cladding. Tell us which when you order, because it changes both the look and the price.
It etches and it needs sealing. Travertine is calcium carbonate, so acids dull it. That makes it excellent for floors, walls, facades and outdoor work, and a considered choice for a kitchen counter. If you want the look without the maintenance, ask about porcelain travertine — we stock it.
