Solid Surface

Solid surface — acrylic sheet material sold by the sheet rather than the slab. Corian is the original and still the reference.

What sets it apart from stone: joints are chemically bonded and disappear, so a long run reads as one continuous surface. It can be thermoformed into curves. Scratches and burns sand out and the surface is repaired in place rather than replaced. Sinks are made from the same material and bonded in, so there is no rim to trap dirt.

That combination is why hospitals, laboratories, schools, food service and healthcare projects specify it, and why it turns up on reception desks and window sills as often as kitchen counters.
